Many great synthetic chemists
are also fine cooks. Prof. Hillhouse's culinary skills are legendary.
He was recently a Chef-de-Jour at
Charlie
Trotter's in Chicago, one of the country's finest "5-star" restaurants.

Hillhouse-led teams ("Group VI", "Beer", and the "Southside
Hitmen") have historically dominated the PSD
Summer Softball League (six-time champs from 1992-2000). At left
is a photo of members of the Southside Hitmen celebrating the 1995 title
at Washington Park -- with magnums of Veuve Cliquot, of course!
In 2005, "Beer" returned to championship form, capturing yet another title in dominating fashion. Factoid: Prof. H's softball moniker is "The Hoover" because of his fielding prowess with a trusty Wilson A-2000 glove. |

Shown here is Prof. H (in Hawaiian shirt and straw
hat) marching with the "World Famous Lawn Rangers" precision marching &
drill team in the 2000 Broomcorn Festival Parade, held annually in lovely
Arcola,
IL. Quite a weekend which everyone should experience at least
once in life!!

Hillhouse is also an accomplished artist. The large
oil painting shown at the left (a Paris park scene) hangs in his office
for all to enjoy.
